José Luis Bonet, Javier Pereiro and Alberto Navarro, researchers at the Institute of Concrete Science and Technology (ICITECH) of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), have designed a new constructive element that improves the protection of buildings and bridges against earthquakes.
Called Smart Seismic Concrete Connection (SSCC), it enhances the connection between structural elements. It stands out for its great capacity for deformation without reaching breakage. In addition, it allows the recovery of the original shape of the structure after an earthquake and hardly requires subsequent repairs.
