Our colleague José Miguel Adam has led a project that prevents the failure of a building due to an accidental event. He proposes new design methods for the corner columns of buildings that redistribute excessive loads in extreme situations that would lead to the collapse of the structure.
This project aims to reduce the vulnerability of buildings considered critical (hospitals, schools, passenger terminals, etc.) by reducing the damage of local instabilities that would translate into a progressive collapse. To this end, it is intended to provide greater robustness and security when designing buildings. This correction of chain failures would save great personal and material losses.
