Abstract:
The proposed project addresses solutions to reduce carbon emissions associated with building structures by encouraging the reuse of their systems and components, to adapt to the growing needs of a circular economy in the construction sector in response to sustainability requirements.
The project aims to provide design guidance for the deconstruction and reuse of building structures with considerations for fire safety and the reuse of fire protection. The main application of the proposed solution is multi-storey steel frame buildings, using composite structures owing to their structural efficiency, construction speed and lower costs. Experimental tests and numerical simulations of demountable composite construction systems will be developed using steel, concrete and timber as protection material (i.e. hybrid) to obtain fire resistances within the range of R60/90.
