Mete A. Sozen Award

The American Concrete Institute (ACI), a world-renowned institution in the field of concrete, has awarded the Mete A. Sozen Award for Excellence in Structural Research to the article “Refined Three-Dimensional Strut-And-Tie Model For Analysis And Design Of Four-Pile Caps (Refined three-dimensional model of struts and ties for the analysis and design of pile caps on four piles) “, prepared by Pedro Miguel Sosa and Luis Pallarés, both professors of the Department of Construction Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) belonging to the Institute of Concrete Sciences and Technology ICITECH; Carlos Meléndez, PhD in Civil Engineering from the UPV; and Juan Sagaseta, Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey (Guildford, England) and PhD from Imperial College London.

This is the first time that Spanish researchers have obtained this recognition, thus adding their names to a list of winners that includes, since the award was created in 1972, real eminences of the sector such as Michael Collins, Oguzhan Bayrak, Antoine E. Naaman, Gustavo J. Parra-Montesinos, Aurelio Muttoni, James O. Jirsa, John E. Breen, James G. MacGregor, Frank J. Vecchio, Arthur H. Nilson y Denis Mitchell.

“If the fact that they publish an article in ACI Structural Journal is already a merit in itself”, indicates Professor Pedro F. Miguel, “which is also chosen as the best of all those published in a year in terms of he excellence in research in our field, it is a milestone that we could not even imagine “.

The award will be presented during the ACI Spring 2021 Concrete Convention and Exposition.
